Experience
I began tutoring in 2011 - my junior year of college. I am drawn to teaching math to students at or above 5th grade level. I have successfully helped a student increase her SAT score that garnered her acceptance to one of Florida's top liberal arts schools. I consider myself a well-traveled individual, having visited 13 countries and the contiguous 48 states. I draw on my life experiences and the experiences of my students to create scenarios and examples that are relevant and concise. I do not muddy waters with fancy language or complicated explanations. My first session with a student is an exploration of the student's likes, dislikes, classroom environment, student's preferred method of learning, and most importantly - goals. The best progress I have seen is that in which I know the student. To teach effectively, one must first understand. I take a personal interest in each of my students. It is this personal interest and great enthusiasm in seeing my student's succeed that makes me stand out. I cheer when my students understand concepts and can explain material back to me. I have had several students that despised math turn to me and say "I love math!" or "Math makes sense!" This is the highest level of accomplishment I hope to achieve. I high five my students frequently. I use props and movement to explain concepts instead of sitting at a desk working out problems on a paper. Learning is meant to be interactive, and I am not an idle teacher. Sparking an interest and enthusiasm toward math is my ultimate goal. I can help you or your child with virtually any concept in math. I look forward to working together!
